Hunger

funeral day—

yet another

overcast sky

 

my shirt too tight

at the collar

 

rain at the window—

eulogy notes

folded in my pocket

 

daffodils on the dais—

I join my siblings

in the front row

 

the pastor’s singing

a little offkey

 

hunger pangs—

the benediction

doesn’t mention mother
